About the Book

The author who is in his 91st.year reasonably active, in good health with sharp memory expresses his strong belief in God and the power of prayers to realise inward peace and contentment so essential to be free from stress as one of the important disciplines for longevity. He illustrates some remarkable instances of danger and imminent death faced by individuals who have secured solace and survival by placing their faith in God.  He recommends compassion and help for the poor and needy and a charitable disposition to free the poorest from want and disease.

The tenor of his book is restraint in human exertions be it physical, drinking, sex and lays special stress on quantity intake of food and does not give importance to slimming through means of dietary fads and continuing fashion for gymnasium work if it is unaccompanied by quantitative restriction on food. He stresses importance of expending physical energy in household work which works as an Alladin’s DIY and recommends exertion as much as possible by walking to complete short external errands.

He believes that the mind is the most important part of the human body and that it is very essential to keep it vibrant and active and that if the mind goes it will take the body with it.

The author’s views on love and marriage are unconventional. He stresses great importance in keeping alive and fresh physical mystique of the human body with as little exposure as possible whether one is married or has a live-in relationship and that most marriages have ended up on the divorce block because the mystique has vanished. He emphasises that for longevity a happy marriage with companionship and sex are necessary.

The author, who lives in Mumbai (Bombay), is an Indian in his 91st year. He is a Master in Economics and has attended the high management course at Henley-on Thames, UK. The French Government in 1988 conferred on him the title of Chevalier de L’Ordre National du Merite.

He brings to bear in his writing unrivalled experience of life having been an interested spectator since age 20 of the great upheavals caused by the Second World War and the convulsions which followed with the horrific Russian and Chinese revolutions, the drop of the atom bomb and the Independence granted to India which was followed by independence of several countries in Africa, south-east Asia and other parts of the world. All this changed the face of the planet and the way people lived and their beliefs.

His thoughts and perceptions are not rigid. He is deeply religious but tolerant of those who are not. He has looked at the world as if people are walking on the bridge of mortality without camping engaged in petty quarrels, greed, excesses, selfishness and generally in an unfulfilled and unhappy life. Without claiming to be a student of human frailties he has evolved by personal experience what should be the way to longevity, and not an early hospital bed, by following certain disciplines which are not draconian but simple to follow.

He emphasises that reaching 60/65 is not the end of life but the beginning of the new 80s. There is a universal urge amongst mankind to live as long as possible and it is here that he is trying to make a practical contribution without frills in his book
