They found themselves in a spacious hallway. It was well lit, and painted a nice shade of green. Light danced across the walls as if reflecting through water, but there was no water to be found. Looking around, they found Alaric and Gunny were looking in amazement at a dagger embedded into the wall next to Alaric's head. "There are hidden traps. Needles, knifes, daggers, and swinging scythes. The usual.” Gunny said matter-of-factly. "Ah. An agility and reflex test. An ancient one, but effective.” Garnoloth replied. “Shall we go?” "After you,” Alaric grinned. When Garnoloth took it as a jest, he added, “No, really. After you. You can set off the traps first so I know where they are.” "I think Alaric and Colbert should go first,” Garnoloth said with a twinkle in his eye. “It would be good training, which they have not received in the past two days.” Alaric groaned, and Colbert grimaced. Stepping lightly, they cautiously made their way through the hallway. Almost instantly, the hallway was alive with action. Needles flew toward the boys from one way, and daggers the other. Alaric quickly grabbed a dagger out of the air and threw it at the needles, changing their impact targets. Colbert drew an arrow out of his quiver and used it to deflect the remainder of the daggers. Alaric took a confident step forwards and said confidently, “That was quite easy. These traps are not hard at all.” He quickly added, “I bet I just cursed us.” "I bet you did!” Colbert yelled and rolled out of the way as two large scythes dropped out of the ceiling towards Alaric. By reflex rather than thinking, Alaric drew his sword and smashed the wooden handles holding the scythe blades in place. The blades clattered harmlessly to a stop at his feet. His chest rising and falling, Alaric stayed frozen in place. “Watch all four directions,” he warned. But it was too late. Colbert's quick movement to dodge the scythes had triggered another trap. Needles flew from all four directions toward Colbert. There was no way to block all four ways at once. Alaric stared helplessly, knowing he could not get there in time.
