About the Book

Victor Way finds himself stranded in a wilderness cabin one winter. While waiting for spring, he recalls his youth when he headed into the untamed West in 1879. After he signed a contract with a shady scoundrel, Vick found himself in the company of four whores, a schoolteacher, and other colorful characters. They each had a past, some of them were trying to forget, and all of them were trying to get it all behind them.

About the Author

Born in Meeteetse, Wyoming in 1944. My husband Steve and I bought a bar there1974. We were fortunate to befriend many old sheepherders and cowboys. This and local history inspired me to set the pattern for the characters. My old cronies would visit every morning to have a drink and share their stories. Their bodies were broken and bent but the twinkle was still in their eye. Most are gone and forgotten, I wanted somehow to include them in the books so they would not be forgotten forever. I had always heard the local legend of an artist, A.A. Anderson bringing women from France to paint portraits and be whores. The legend was a lodge was built high in the wilderness to house the whores. He did however name the creeks after women. After a little research it was discovered the creek names were his family's. This changed the idea of the book. I have a lot of gal friends and they allowed me to use their names and personalities to replace the names of the creeks. I have attended the school of hard knocks and most of the horse events in the book were true experiences learned the hard way. The book has been fun remembering all the old cronies and the hope is you will love them as much as I did.
