They tiptoed around the library as quiet as mice, peering around shelves of dusty books for forbidden doors. Finally, they reached the bottom floor of the five-story library.
"This was a waste of time Em, there are no doors down here.”
"Wait!” Emma yelled from the opposite corner.
“Over here!”
Matthew rushed over to the corner where Emma was frozen in front of a wooden door with a purple knob.
"Holy cow, the knob matches the color of the key!” Matthew whispered.
Suddenly the key that Emma had in the pocket of her blue jeans started to throb and glow purple once again, only this time it was throbbing faster than ever! The door was completely normal besides the purple knob, but for some reason, they believed that the key was giving them a signal to open this door. Emma grabbed the key out of her pocket and carefully stuck the key inside the door.
"So much for magic not be real…this is definitely not a joke. Mom and Dad don’t know what they are talking about. This is awesome!” Matthew yelled in Emma’s face
"I’m scared Matty, what if we get in trouble?” Emma whined.
Matthew grabbed her hand that was placed on top of the key in the door and gave it one big turn to the left. The lock made a clicking sound as the throbbing, glowing key unlocked the door. As the door slowly creaked open, the key stopped moving and glowing. As the twins stepped through the door they looked around. It looked just like an old room in the library under construction. The shelves were dusty with “caution” tape around them. There were more half made shelves being constructed in the corner of the room, and small tables too that had sandpaper strategically placed on the tabletops. As they looked down at their feet, they noticed that purple smoke was surrounding them; coming from the cracks in the floor and it was starting to rise. Emma started breathing heavily. She grabbed Matthew’s hand as she looked at him with a look of intense fear.
All of the sudden there was a giant flash of bright purple and gold lightning that lit up the room. It was so bright it blinded the siblings! They frantically covered their eyes from the light as a gust of wind started whistling around them faster and stronger. The mixture of smoke, light, and wind made the two hug each other tightly in fear. As their hair flew chaotically around their heads, they started to scream.
"I’m scared!”
"Me too!” Matthew screeched.
"AAAAHHHHH!”
They yelled in unison as they crouched down on the floor, still hugging each other in fear. The wind kept swirling around them faster and faster. The twins buried their heads into each other’s shoulders to shield themselves from the chaos. They hadn’t hugged like this in years! The lightning kept crashing all around them, creating more and more smoke, swirling and twirling around them. It was so powerful it blew the kids right off their feet onto the floor! There they lay in a fetal position, grasping each other’s hands for dear life. The twins thought they were toast for sure…
Suddenly the wind, lightning, and smoke stopped swirling, twirling, and flashing! There was an eerie silence as the smoke was starting to clear around their bodies. Matthew and Emma were still shivering, too afraid to open their eyes.
As they hugged each other close for several more minutes, Matthew felt a streak of bravery. He stood up, still hooked onto Emma and opened his right eye. He jumped back in disbelief and gasped! As he jumped back, he threw Emma out of his arms and she flew right into something fairly soft.
"Woah baby!” Matthew shouted, while Emma still had her eyes tightly closed.
"Emma look around you! It’s amazing!” Matthew said, rubbing his eyes to make sure he wasn’t dreaming.
Emma slowly one eye, then the other, still shaking from fear. Her eyes grew wide and her mouth fell open as she gawked in amazement at the beautiful new place she and her brother had just fallen into. She looked down at her clothes to see big purple leaves. She was sitting in the center of a purple bush! She had landed in the purple bush when her brother threw her out of his grasp.
