As she entered the bathroom, she locked the door behind her, still a little nervous. She ran the water as hot as she could stand it, and stripped down to her birthday suit. She was running on empty, no longer the energetic outgoing person that she had once been. Now she was afraid, afraid to leave Tyler's apartment. The wall mirror hanging in the bathroom reflected her golden brown skin. The sight of her naked reflection frightened her. Black and blue bruises covered her from head to toe. Removing the bandage that covered the eight stitches above her left eye, she barely recognized herself. Marco had taken so much from her, not only physically but emotionally as well. Her ribs protruded under her skin. High cheekbones looked higher over sunken jaws. As near as she could tell, she had been in the warehouse nearly three weeks or longer. Wondering how long it took to starve to death, she rubbed the dark circles under her bloodshot eyes. The crimson nail polish began to fade and crack from her four week old manicured skeleton fingers. She laughed at herself at the shape of her nails, always saying she wouldn't be caught dead with bad nails. She couldn't help but cry when she thought how Marlow had deceived her. Verbally she abused herself, ashamed of the person looking back at her. Why, danced around in her mind, echoing in her ears. She whispered it to herself over and over again, afraid to say it out loud. Convinced she wouldn't like the answer she would get. Closing her eyes and leaning her head against the mirror, suicide was lodged in the deep corners of her mind, creeping its way to the front. Contemplating on how she would do it, the tears came rolling down her cheeks one behind the other.

About the Author
Vicki L. Wright was born and raised in Forrest City, AR where she currently resides with her mother and two teenage daughters. After graduating high school she moved to Chicago, IL where she lived for fourteen years and there is where she discovered her love for writing. In the spring 1996 she moved to Biloxi, MS where she lived for nine years until hurricane Katrina blew onto the Mississippi Gulf Coast. She relocated back to Forrest City and attended East Ark Community College and received her Associate of Arts in General studies. She now devotes her time to raising her two teenage daughters, and her first love of writing.
