Tamil Proverbs

About the Book

I grew up in Sri Lanka speaking the Tamil language. I have always been especially fond of the proverbs I learned in this language, some of which have been handed down through generations. I have gathered my favourite proverbs in this book. I think readers from all cultures will find them interesting, and I think they will be especially meaningful for Tamil speakers. Tamils are spread all over the world. It is my hope that younger generation of Tamils will use this book to find out more about the Tamil culture. In the Tamil language, these proverbs are interesting, concise, and forceful. I have endeavoured to convey the sense of the original in my translations. Some proverbs are accompanied by pictures, which, I hope, add a bit of fun and entertainment. This book was written in the memory of all those who innocently died in Sri Lanka and never really had the chance to have a beautiful life. May peace prevail on Earth.

About the Author

Jesurajah Sebastiampillai, BEng (Hons), was born in Sri Lanka, and had to leave his homeland when he was only eighteen years old. He travelled all over the world, and finally settled in the United Kingdom. In 1999 Jesu qualified in aeronautical engineering at Salford University in Manchester. He then spent ten years working as a financier for his own company in London where he currently resides with his family. Jesu is married to Ramona, a Romanian native who is about to get a degree in psychology. They have two beautiful children, Andrei and Nicole. Jesu spends his spare time with his lovely family, which makes him very happy and complete. His hobbies are flying and writing books. Lately he enjoys writing children books.
