About the Book

You would have to be living on another planet to avoid reading and/or hearing about all the negative publicity surrounding the marriages and/or the lack of healthy marriages in the African American community. There is no doubt that we have challenges; however our challenges seem to be magnified when they are studied or reported on. As African Americans we should tell our own story. What’s Really Happening in African American Relationships is a book that provokes thought, educates and challenges you, by bringing together scholarly research studies and non-scholarly articles on the crisis of marriage and relationships in the African American community. The author takes a close in-depth look at: When and why the unions started to fall apart (divorce and generational curses), the covenant of marriage (covenant marriage contracts/laws and the biblical marriage covenant), communication (barriers, styles and the metamorphosis/transformation process), the effect of stepfamilies and step-parenting on a marital relationship (remarriages, myths, etc.) and the African American woman and marriage. Most notably and important is that this book provides biblical scripture references that supersede what everyone is saying, teaching, and predicting – For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, and plans to give you hope and a future – Jeremiah 29:11.

a passionate individual with a heart for serving God, through work with couples and individuals in a stepfamily environment. As an author in the process of publishing,“What's Really Happening in African-American Relationships” I am zealous about the critical state of African-American marriages and relationships in our community. Although, I agree marriage is not for everyone, those of us that have chosen this route and/or are in a committed relationship, I believe has an obligation to see the marriage succeed and to set an example that gives God all the glory!
