About the Book

I’m just a mom of three who spent much of my life believing in my children, cheering them on, and doing everything I could to help them become the people God created them to be. For years, my days were filled with the beautiful noise of motherhood—the schedules, the practices, the celebrations, the disappointments, the conversations, and all the little moments that seemed ordinary at the time but somehow became the moments I would miss the most. Our family wasn’t always the most religious family, but faith was always there. It was something we held onto, something we stood on, especially when life didn’t make sense. I believed in God, but like so many of us, I often found it easier to trust Him when I could see where He was leading me. My career has been dedicated to helping people believe in themselves, discover what they are capable of, and recognize that they can change the course of their lives. I have spent years encouraging others to step forward, grow, and believe that something greater may be possible for them. What I didn’t always realize was that, eventually, God would ask me to believe those same things for myself. Then the house went quiet. As my children grew and began leaving home, I found myself standing in a season I had spent years preparing for but somehow never imagined would feel so difficult. The roles that had defined so much of my life began to change. The noise became silence. The busyness became stillness. And beneath it all was a question I wasn’t prepared to answer: Who am I when the people who needed me most no longer need me in the same way? Life brought other losses and changes during that same season, and I found myself facing a level of uncertainty I could not fix, organize, or work my way through. For perhaps the first time, I had to stop trying to figure everything out and simply trust God with what I could not control. That is where When the House Gets Quiet began. This book is not a story about having all the answers. It is a story about learning to live in the questions. It is about motherhood, loss, identity, faith, and the unexpected places where God meets us when the life we knew begins to change. It is about discovering that an ending does not necessarily mean something is over; sometimes it is an invitation to become something new. Writing this book has reminded me that God is present in both the noise and the quiet. He is present when our lives feel full and purposeful, and He is just as present when we are sitting in an empty room wondering what comes next. I have learned that sometimes we are so focused on getting to the next chapter that we miss what God is doing in the one we are living. So, I write this book not as an expert, but as a woman who has walked through her own season of uncertainty and discovered that faith can carry us when we don’t have the strength to carry ourselves. I am still learning. I am still becoming. I am still trusting God with the pages I cannot yet read. And perhaps that is what I hope most for you. If your house has gone quiet, if you are wondering where you fit in this next season, or if you are standing at a crossroads you never expected to face, I hope these pages remind you that your story is not finished. God is still there. He is still writing. And even when you cannot see what comes next, you can trust the One who can.
