The confrontation. As she left the Old Library, convoluted thoughts were still clouding her mind. By the time she made her way up to the surveillance room, Mary Grace’s demeanor had mollified and softened. She had fought back her fears with prayer and fortitude! When she reached the surveillance room, the door quickly flew open. “What have we here, our very own little Irish colleen home from America?” JK asked with a full grin. “Come here, darling,” he said brightly. “Come into my inner sanctum, love, and give us a kiss!” He yanked her hard against him. Mary Grace paused, glanced at him, then threw her arms around his neck and kissed him passionately. Holding her tightly he lifted her up off the floor. It felt good to be held in his arms again, she thought. Stepping back, Mary Grace looked around. She felt an inner delight spread through her body at the sight of her old workplace. A greenish glow from the row of receivers filled the room. The television monitors buzzed softly as images of tourists and various nooks and crannies of Trinity College filled the screens on the walls. “It is so good to be back with you,” she said, squeezing JK’s hand tightly. “I’ve been watching you for the last hour. You seemed to be a little shaken when you were at the Book’s display today. Was the message not to your liking?” he asked cautiously. Mary Grace found her pulse quickening. She looked pensive at first but then flashed a smile. “The reading was absolutely wonderful, but a little unexpected. I was looking forward to a longer reading… perhaps something that would be a dynamic guide to my life,” she lied. JK’s brow furrowed. He looked dubious. A full five seconds pass before he answered, and when he did, it was quietly, without inflection. “Wasn’t today’s reading about the truth theory, so to speak?” Mary Grace nodded and swallowed hard. “Yes, it was. But telling the truth doesn’t present a problem for me. That’s the sixth commandment.” “No. It is the ninth commandment,” JK said with a sarcastic laugh. “I had better check that out before I go to confession again! I always go by the numbers,” exclaimed Mary Grace. She made a last ditch effort to change the subject. “Tell me JK, how is my grandfather? Are we going out to Wicklow tomorrow? I am here in Ireland to bring him home to America.” “First things first. You and I together at the Clarence Hotel tonight, dine at the rooftop terrace Grill… with a few Guinness, by all the saints. And then a little love making. What do you say? Are you up to it my precious love? My future Mrs. Kelly?” Mary Grace answered with a quick “Yes, Yes, Yes, and Yes!” She crossed her fingers behind her back. She knew damn well that this was not the perfect time to start telling the truth!

About the Author
Helen M. Struble holds a Doctorate in Education from Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ. Dr. Struble is in private practice as an Educational Consultant re: test preparation and evaluation of students’ skills. She has taught Gifted and Talented classes at the K-12 level, Remedial Mathematics, and Reading/Writing classes at the college level. Having an innate passion for words, Dr. Struble loves to spend time writing poetry and short stories. In addition to writing articles for educational publications, she most recently co-authored a medieval work of fiction, "First Light", published by AuthorHouse. (Historically, this novel is one of the first works written by identical twins.) A sequel to "First Light" is currently being completed by Dr. Struble and her sister, Mary Tobin, of Florida.
