“What was the second one?”
“What do you mean?”
“The second reason?”
“Oh,” she said, and then looked down to start cutting again. “I’m not sure if you realize this, but you’re very good looking.”
David put his hand on top of Samantha's so she would stop cutting. He looked at her and smiled. “You think I’m good looking?”
She turned her body so she could face him. “Yes, I do.”
He knew this would happen. He just didn’t expect it to be so quick. All he could think about was kissing her. His eyes were wandering from her eyes to her lips.
I have to. I can’t take it another minute. I have to kiss her.
David lifted his hand up and put it on the side of Samantha's face. He looked deep into her eyes as he slowly leaned forward. She closed her eyes just before he kissed her lips. They were softer and sweeter than he could have imagined. He softly kissed them twice and leaned back slightly so he could look into her eyes again. It took her a second to open them. When David saw the look in her eyes he kissed her again, but this was a passionate kiss. He moved his hands down to her waist and she wrapped her arms around his neck. When her body pressed against his he felt every nerve in his body come to life. He hadn’t felt this way in a very long time.
That’s when it happened. A massive wave of guilt swept over him. He immediately pulled back and felt panicked. He walked away from her and looked around frantically for his keys. He was relieved to find them on the table. All he could do at that moment was look at her and say, “I’m so sorry about this, but I have to leave.”
He walked past her without making eye contact and rushed out the door. He heard her calling after him, but he didn't turn around.

Burying the Past is a fictional story about a young police detective, David Brooks, who has been pushed to the edge by the organization responsible for the murdering of his wife and two year old son. After moving back home it is obvious to everyone around him that he has been broken beyond repair. That is until he meets, Samantha Winchester. She knows nothing of David's history or the horrors of his past. The only thing Samantha knows is that she is uncharacteristically drawn to him from the first moment she sees him. As time passes, and their relationship progresses, David will struggle to find peace within himself once again.
