I remembered when I first came to America from Haiti. I was 15 years old. I came along with my little brother kervens who was only 13 years old. My mother was already in the USA. She had immigrated two years earlier, and now live in Miami. The idea to come to the USA was exciting. Not only I had missed my mother I also wanted to know what America was really look like. I couldn’t help to imagine a new life will start from now on .Since the United States is one of the richest country in the world, and it is also good for education .I was always thinking of coming here one day. I was on the airplane that fled through the clouds. My brother kervens was sleeping next to me. He looked tired. From time to time he woke up to tell me: "It look so long, at what time we're going to be in Miami?” "We're almost there, stop bothering." I would always answer. I knew he was right .For me the trip lasted so long. It took an eternity to go to the promised land. Finally the pilot announced that the plane will soon be landing for everyone to wear their seat belts for safety. I closed my eyes tightly and took a deep breath. "Brother, I said, we're finally here. Wake up and be ready to get off." My brother woke up, he was filled with enthusiasm. He drew closer to me and muttered in my ear . "We're landing in Miami, is it a dream or reality? We are going to see mom. " " Of course we are going to see her, she might be waiting for us at the airport. let's go and let the real life begin." I shouted while taking his hands between mine to get off! My brother and I embarked our stuff. We both had two suitcases which we dragged along behind us. The airport was crowded. There we saw people from everywhere, but my main focus was to look for mom. She was a short lady. I knew it was not easy to see her head among those people. I kept looking at those thousand of feet. I was good at this. I knew mommy's feet well. She had a crippled leg with my name and my brother's name tattooed on it. I remenbered when I was in Haiti mom called us to inform us that she got into a car accident in miami while she was on her way to work. she also sent us a picture of her foot with those names tatooed on it. She said the reason why she tatooed our names on her leg it's because we are the ones who she's working for. The entire time I was looking for her feet I had that picture in my mind. I knew I would recognize it. While I was looking for her feet, I found some feet that looked very similar as hers. Then, suddently I've heard someone said: "Janet." I looked up, it was my mom. My brother and I were very excited to see her. She ran to us and embraced us. "Janet, look at you! You look so big. You too Kervens, now you're the man of the house, she said turning to her son . I'm so glad we are here together. I've been waiting for that moment for a long time. "I'm happy to see you mom, I answered, I cannot explain what I feel right now. And I'm more than happy for kervens , he needs you mom." "I know my daughter! I missed you both. I know how difficult things were for you in Haiti. That's why I do my best to bring you over here." "Mom I want to see a highway! kervens exclaimed, I've never seen one before only on TV." I smirked and said: "Can you shut up if you don't have anything serious to say." "I'm talking to my mom," kervens said nervously. "Ok, it's alright! We're going home, on the way I'll show you the highway. Here we have plenty of them to facilitate the circulation. "Why we don't have any in Haiti?" kervens asked. "Haiti is a poor country, we don't even have enough to eat, mom said sadly. We took a taxi in front of the airport. The driver took the I-95. kervens and I were looking at everywhere with eyes wide open. The city was splendid. For the first time Kervens and I had seen a highway.
