Have you ever wondered why it is that whilst there are literally hundreds of ‘diets’ to choose from, some new, some of which have been around for years, all ‘guaranteeing’ that ‘amazing new you’, yet as a population, we are actually getting fatter and becoming less healthy.
I certainly have, which is why I felt compelled to write this book.
For many years people, including myself, have known that by and large ‘diets’ don’t work, some people lose their weight by starving themselves, some people even resort to making themselves sick but in most instances the vast majority of ‘dieters’ only end up putting all the weight back on, sometimes with a little extra thrown in. Most people on a diet will also tell you they are miserable and unhappy with themselves, never seeming to achieve that ‘ideal’ weight which they believe will bring them happiness.
Trying to look like that model we’ve see in this magazine just feeds into our emotional insecurities and leads us back to food for comfort. In fact you can put your scales away because you won’t need them. We know within ourselves how we feel, and whether or not we are eating a balanced diet, the hard part is acting upon what we know and hopefully this is where I can help.
I know what you are thinking; “so what’s new, what are you going to tell me that’s any different to what’s been said before?” My answer ‘everything’ because my book is not a diet book and you will not be counting calories, yet you will lose weight. How you may ask, well through learning to love and nurture yourself by finding out what it is you actually need to comfort yourself instead of food.
My book will take you on a journey that will explore your relationship with food, where it comes from and how to change it. This will be done through various exercises that get you to look into yourself to find out what happens for you emotionally when you eat so as to establish what ‘void’ you may be trying to fill with food. By doing this you will begin to understand your eating habits and be able to make an ‘informed’ choice to fill this void with what you really need.
My book will give you insight into where you’re eating ‘struggle’ stems from, and how you can begin to do things differently. I will not be encouraging you to lose weight that will happen naturally once you understand your relationship with food and can make different choices.
You will be empowered to free yourself from the ‘emotion – void – food’ cycle while also learning that food in its self is not bad it is how you choose to use the food, hence the book title ‘The Bad Food Myth’.
A word of warning, looking into yourself emotionally is not easy. Having had my own psychotherapy for more than five years I speak from my own experiences, some good, some not so good, but the rewards are life changing because they begin the process of enabling us to start loving and nurturing ourselves.
Once we start to love ourselves for who we are we can let go of
pursuing that unattainable ‘perfect’ figure, and really start to appreciate what we have. The result is you lose weight without ever needing to diet because you no longer need to use food as an emotional crutch.
So if you feel you are ready to challenge yourself emotionally and are prepared to be totally honest with yourself, while taking responsibility for your choices in life, knowing that even though some choices are difficult, you can choose something different, this is the book for you.
The reward will be that you start to understand why you comfort eat and the ‘void’ you are trying to fill with food and you will begin to fill it with something much better, while at the same time loosing weight and liking yourself a lot more along the way.
Finally before you begin your journey it is important to mention that some of you will have deep emotional needs that this book cannot deal with; if this is the case and you feel you want to deal with these issues appropriately you may look to engage in your own therapy.
