“Brother?” William’s voice now sounded emotional. “Charles, don’t risk it. I’m not worth it. I let you down…I betrayed you. This war has turned me into what I’m not. I didn’t mean to get you in trouble. I was just obeying orders. I’m a confederate now…whether I like it or not.” William stopped suddenly, as if abruptly aware of his rambling.
“I won’t leave you,” Charles said, stubbornly. “Like I said before, family is forever. Our loyalties are to each other before any side of the war we would chose. It took me over a year in the army to realize that.”
“You’re more grownup than I’ll ever be,” William said, “but please Charles. Go! I’m begging you!”
“Tomorrow night,” Charles answered. “Be ready.” And then Charles was gone.

About the Book
The Cry of War tells the story of a large family living in the South at the time of the Civil War. It gives an accurate depiction of the heartbreak the war caused in many families. The story follows four main characters through the ups and downs of the war, as they each realize family is forever. A tear-jerker to the end, The Cry of War lets you travel back two hundred years to experience the Civil War through the eyes of the young men and women who took part in it.
