ASOKA’S LAST DREAM
Sanghamitta was immensely pleased with her and with what has been happening these months. Her dreams were coming true. She even secretly admired herself for having successfully established Buddhist monasteries in far away places like Lankadweepa with the help of her brother Mahinda. There will be no more war among people. Asoka will be remembered forever for this noble act. …But, why does he want to see me now?
Asoka’s education started in full earnest. Asoka learnt Sanskrit and science of Anivikshaki.. He was trained to strengthen his own faith in Brahmanical religion. It was his mother Subathrangi who encouraged Asoka to follow the texts of Kautalya……..
Soon Asoka was adept in reciting Rudra japam, Purusha Suktham and learnt all the stories of Mahabharata and Ramayana. He listened to Rig Veda too which says ‘Manur Bhava janya daivyam janam’- Become the human being, create the divine race. To achieve this goal only way is to respect and follow the great Vedas and live according to what is said therein. ”
“ Do you mean to say you will continue to wage wars?”, Devi asked him hesitatingly.
“ Yes, I have to. Look , how I quelled this rebellion here , now I have established peace among small provinces and people are happier. War is necessary to bring peace.”
“Have you heard of Buddha? He was known as Prince Siddhartha but one day left his beloved wife, his new born baby and the kingdom in search of truth and peace,” said his wife.
…………………………
“My dear father, indeed, it was important to have conquered Kalinga. I did not believe this war has bought such a great destruction any time…..My dear father, kindly stop the war.”
……..Now, I sent word for you not because I wanted to see you before I leave this world for ever, but I have to talk to you about my dream.”
“But father, you have fulfilled your greatest dream, what more you want?”
