About the Book

This book arms children to be their own first line of defense against abusers and abductors.

It is a flip book. One side READ TO ME for 3-7 year olds and the other I CAN READ for 7-9 year olds.

It uses a truth telling humming bird and her friends; a polka-dot collecting lady bug and skate board riding spider in a soft fun story about the secret weapon power in the word NO. It also reinforces that secrets are about happy things like birthday presents.

About the Author

As the oldest of five children it has always been second nature for me to be protective.

I feel privileged to be starting my 18th year as an educational teachers aid. It is doing this work that I have learned first hand that children find it almost impossible to disobey an adult.

It is the first thing that a child abuser knows and uses as a tool.

So I wrote this flip book to teach children in an age appropriate way that when something feels wrong it is always alright to use the word "no" and it can be a secret weapon to staying safe.

Having this book published with its potential to help children I don't know is vitally important to me. Children have the right to be safe!



The illustrator.
Lynda Beattie Tannen, is my best friend. I call her the renaissance woman. She is the most artistic woman I have ever known. Between doing her graphic art, acting, jewelry making, wall murals, sculpting and chasing her baby granddaughter Natalie; she has graced the book with her delightful drawings.
