About the Book
What could a new family of Ducklings do when they find their old home in the City of Boston, changed by the Big Dig? How will they reunite, and where can they find a safe haven from all the noise and confusion for their new brood of chicks? All end's well as the story unfolds upon the background of Boston's largest engineering feat in the last century. Along the way, children are introduced to a pictoral tour of Boston Landmarks.
About the Author
ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Priscilla Batson is an Occupational Therapist who lives on the South Shore of Massachusetts, only 30 minutes away from downtown Boston. Although not immediately immersed in the decade long hub-bub of the Big Dig, she was geographically close enough to be aware of the changes the City was undergoing and to hear all about it on the nightly news. Early in the whole process she heard a story on the news that inspired the writing of this tale for her granddaughter, and it is only now that the Big Dig is history, and that she, and her friend and fellow Occupational Therapist, Alison Hartwell, are retired, that they decided to join forces to publish this story. Alison is a marvelous photographer and agreed to try to capture in pictures the tale of The Duckling Family of Boston, and the accommodations they needed to make because of the BIG DIG! ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER: Alison Hartwell grew up in Squantam and now lives near Wollaston Beach, both sections of Quincy, Massachusetts. She has always been a stonesthrow from Boston and knows the city intimately. She started taking pictures as a teenager, with her Kodak brownie camera. She joined the South Shore Camera Club in 1982 and has been developing "her eye" since then, with the help of the camera club. She enjoys photoshop, changing colors and filters, and trying out new techniques. She seems happiest catching the "T" for a Boston destination, camera case slung over her shoulder, in search of the right angle and exposure to capture the essence of Boston.
