Saints and Scholars

We have come to a point in our nation’s history, and indeed, world history, where never before has there been more of a need and a demand of ourselves and from ourselves to be more.

With the changing economic, political and cultural climate, worldwide, this is the perfect and essential time to pause, reflect and take stock of how far we have come and where we wish to go next.

Never before, in recent history, has there been a time, when we need to stop and ask ourselves, who are we, where are we going, what do we stand for and what do we want?

As a people and as a nation, what are the values and what is the value of modern Ireland?

And it all begins with ourselves as individuals.

The maxim is clear.

If we wish to have more, we must do more and if you wish to do more, we must be more.

It is time to usher in a new era of Saints and Scholars, and it is you, the next generation, who must be those Saints and the Scholars.

Again, this goes beyond Ireland, and can apply to any country.

We have had our decades of corruption, greed, banking crises and backhanders, and although I accept that you may be very apathetic about it, the fact is that you are the next generation, and it is up to you to stand up and be counted, and to stand up and start making decisions first for yourself, and secondly for the wider community.

You can choose.

Do you want the Ireland and the world of the future to be shaped by the mistakes of the generations that came before or do you want it to be shaped by you, and built upon the many positives we have as a nation and a people?

A time where we hold ourselves up to the highest of principles, the highest of virtues, the highest of standards and the loftiest of values.

This is Saints and Scholars in the sense of hearts and minds and purpose.

By Saint, I mean being guided from within, from your heart, from your own highest values, principles and moral code.
