Anna then took a few minutes to explain the history of the orb and her responsibilities as a time guardian. Churchill seemed to find the story intriguing. She had his undivided attention throughout. He seemed to nod his head as though he recalled past memories.
In his younger days he had been a reporter writing on the Boer War in South Africa in 1899 and 1900. He had resigned his commission from the British Army and accepted work as a war correspondent for the Morning Post. Shortly before his departure, he met a woman who was a friend of his mother. He hadn’t known her well, but she insisted on seeing him before he left. He thought the woman was slightly daft at first since she claimed to have knowledge of future events. She seemed to know a great deal about him. He recalled how she seemed so sure of herself and of him. It was at a time in his life when he had doubts about himself and his mission in life. She helped him find a purpose.
She also foretold that he would be captured by the Boers. But she gave him tips that could prove helpful to escape. Then she simply disappeared. It turned out she was right. Winston recalled her advice and escaped. The experience inspired him to write a book, “London to Ladysmith”, which made him a local hero.
Years later, his life was at another crossroads. In 1915, the country was embroiled in World War I. He had pushed for the Dardanelles campaign, aimed at eliminating Turkey from the war and combining with Russia to attack the Central Powers from behind. But the campaign had gone badly and he had been forced to resign as First Lord of the Admiralty. It seemed like the end of his career. He had lost his focus. But suddenly she reappeared. He was much older, but she hardly seemed to have aged. Now he knew why.
She rekindled his spirit and the desire to serve his country. She had warned him of difficulties ahead, the dangers of a fanatic in Germany, Adolf Hitler, who had designs on conquering Europe. He remembered her premonition and was an outspoken critic of the Führer. When the time came and the need arose he was appointed Prime Minister in May, 1940. A look of comprehension crossed the Prime Minister’s face. It was Anna’s grandmother who had been watching over him. Anna didn’t know it, but it was her trips back in time to visit her grandmother that provided some of the information given to Churchill.
