Chapter 1 Lone Peak Valley High in the hill country, near the snow line, far from any ranch or town, roam a remnant of wild horses. Survival is their goal and freedom is their prize. Not many people care about their existence except for one lone stranger who is often seen wandering about those parts on a special mission. It is an early spring morning with a bite in the air, causing the rider to hunker down under his long oilskin coat. Soon the sun will peak over the mountaintop to announce another glorious day in Lone Peak Valley. From a distance, his black felt hat can be seen bobbing up and down in rhythm with the steady jog of his winsome mount. The two blend into one as they move in perfect harmony, picking their way in-and-out of craggy rocks and scrubby vegetation. They are traveling on a winding trail that reaches a higher bench-land. A gentle breeze separates the horse's tail into fine streamers. Every now and then the rider glances up to scan the broad, sloping landscape for movement, and then he settles back down into his well-worn saddle. It is a long ago dream that brings the young man, Gene, to Lone Peak Valley. Pilgrim, his twenty-two year old stallion has worked hard over the many years of mountain riding. He has well earned a comfortable retirement on Gene's ranch. It is not easy for Gene to find a replacement for his faithful and true friend. A new horse needs to be tough to endure the rugged country. Most importantly, it needs a big heart and desire to partner with Gene for his demanding mission work.

About the Book
I would like to introduce you to "Captured by Love", a children's adventure story that can be read aloud with questions for discussion and Bible truths with scripture references for parent (teacher) and child(ren). It is an fictional devotional story illustrating Psalm 139. The setting is the rich Cariboo country of British Columbia, where wild horses still roam. A missionary/doctor must find a suitable wild horse to partner with him. There is a cattle round-up adventure, a horse chase and a big test of the heart. Children will be drawn into this real life adventure of taming a wild horse. This devotional is unique in that it takes the 'natural horsemanship' principles of training horses and applies them to our relationship with God and his leadership, love and language in our lives. Children love horses and they will be most open and inspired by the message of God's sovereignty and love in their lives when they see the marvelous relationship the horse and rider have at the end of the chase.
About the Author
Cheryl, a veteran Olympian rower, is a certified professional teacher and the Founder (2001) and past Director of GLEEM Canada International, a discipleship training program for foreign teens. She is a mother of four grown children and a happy wife of 37 years. Cheryl is intimately acquainted with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and loves to teach, exhort and minister to youth. The Cariboo is her and her husband's present home where they pursue their love of horses, dogs and outdoor recreation and also where she continues to write curriculum for Christian education, inspirational devotionals and stories for children.
