About the Book

In this world we live in there are many things that make us feel as if we are running around in the darkness and cannot find our way out. Everywhere we look there are reasons for sadness, pain and grief. We lose someone we love in death or life throws so many knocks at us we feel as if we cannot possibly get up. The world around us is full of crime, hate and injustice. It is so overwhelming that we may feel there is nothing worth our while. Yet, in each one of our lives we have much to be grateful for. We have so many wonderful things that make us happy or smile, even if only for a brief period of time. These moments are the light that makes us get up in the morning and carry on regardless of the darkness in the world. This book of poetry is a look at both the darkness in life that gets us down and at the light that lifts us up again. The sadness and grief as well as the happiness and love. May the light in your life overpower and chase away the darkness.

About the Author

Deborah Heyneke was born as Deborah Gindra in Pretoria, South Africa in 1972. She comes from a large family of 7 children, 4 own and 2 fostered siblings. They are 3 boys and 4 girls. She comes from a very loving and stable environment. She is 37 years old and has been married to David Heyneke, her high school sweetheart for 17 years, they have 2 children, Jeandre and Chantay - the pigeon pair that made their lives complete. Deborah was always a story teller and even at school was able to capture the imagination of her teachers with her essays. When she finished school , her English teacher told her that she should get published as she had a great talent for writing. She was never able to accomplish that dream as she never fully believed in herself. A few years ago, she suffered from severe depression and this was when she started writing poetry as a salve to her haywire emotions. This book of poetry is her way of showing her belief in herself and the gift of being able to express herself in words. Many of the poems are based on people close to her and their experiences. Due to her empathy or ability to fell others pain, she has been able to write about these as if in their shoes. There are also many things she has written about that are prominent problems in the world, things that bother her, things that she felt she needed to write about. She also writes about the wonderful things in life that just make it all worthwhile. Follow her in this journey from pain to happiness.
