Chapter 6- Naval Battle of Vieux Grand Port
The
French colons had got news that the British had captured the neighbour French
dependency Bourbon Island When they saw the ships anchored near Ile de la Passe
they started to panic knowing that soon it would be the turn of Isle de France
to fall into the British hands.
The
French colons with the help of the new French government had brought lots of
progress on the island and many missionaries came over to provide education for
the French settlers.
Father
Charlot was one of the missionaries who came on Isle de France in 1793 and he
spent about half a century educating the children of the colons and giving out
religious knowledge to the grown up as well.
He
founded the first school in the region of Moka for pedagogic and religious
instruction. .In this school many of the future decision makers on the island
would receive education.
In
august 1800 father Charlot and father Lagrave founded the first secondary
school for boys and it was named the
Due
to his precarious health, father Charlot had to retire only one year after as
his health did not allow him to carry the heavy responsibility of educating
adolescent boys.

About the Book
The book tells the story of Mauritius since the beginning when it was only a wild untouched paradise made of virgin forests of ebony trees and inhabited by all sorts of birds of which the famous Dodo.Dutch colonization having failed the colons abandoned this island which they had named Mauritius.
About the Author
The author
is a Mauritian woman of forty five, grand-daughter of Indian indentured
labourers.
She is married with a teenage son and daughter.
She has worked in the textile and tourist industry before now working in Business
Process Outsourcing field.
She enjoys gardening, reading and swimming in the blue lagoons and white
beaches of her beloved Island
