About the Book

Blue Feather - "Elk Mountain" is set in the Medicine Bow country of southern Wyoming in 1868-1869. It brings the action, conflicts, drama, humor, romance, and raw environment of the life of a man of the West, into the life of a woman of the southern tradition of Virginia. The never-ending discords between good and evil and of the internal and external struggles of two people have a striking similarity; for one the tragic loss of a wife and children, and for the other the loss of a husband on the Gettysburg battlefield. The lack of a familial environment has a resonating commonality. An exchange of letters between the two individuals from totally different backgrounds brings Blue feather to a peak of emotional decisiveness as each party reaches out to the needs and desires of the other and in that exchange they find the common ground of sharing, adjusting, and love. Blue Feather is a rollicking, action-packed fun-filled narrative with all the fights, shootings, stampedes, cattle roundups, Indian attacks, gunslingers, robbers, gamblers, prostitutes, chicanery, and hard work that characterizes the Western Frontier during the construction of the Transcontinental Railroad. The story of two people finding each other is as contemporary as it is historical in the emotions, personal conflicts, losses, loves, and memories that are with people trying to move on in their lives.
