Spare Parts

This program is started by the U.S. military.  A person copies his, or her, mind onto a CD disk then that disk can be loaded onto computers to control different machines.  This story shows how at first the minds can only control simple things, be they get more advanced.  They used the minds to experiment and control prisoners caught in battle, but the war ends and they have no more prisoners.  They start making bodies using donated and bought sperm and eggs.  After they make the bodies they put someone else’s mind in and take the body.  This procedure is shown from five different viewpoints as time progresses in this novel page turner with a darker twist.

Story one; The Beginning

this tells a story of how the military first uses this procedure; there’s no bodies yet, it’s only robot bodies.  It’s in the Middle East where a human is in command of a company of insect warriors-they preform operations and go into battle.

Story two; The Lady of the Evening

Now it goes public and they can use human bodies.  These bodies are controlled by the same person’s mind who’s moved from body to body.  Susan starts out as a homeless drug addict who’s living on the street and eating out of dumpsters.  After being beaten and left for dead she’s taken to the hospital.  A crime boss gives her the choice of working as a prostitute/stripper for him or he’ll leave.  She can look like whoever the client wants for prearranged meetings.  She’s also a stripper.  The tips are hers but the paycheck goes straight to the boss.

Story three, The Naturals

The Naturals are a group of people who protest, sometimes violently, against killing to use the Artificials (man-made bodies) as simply holders of the people’s minds who buy the bodies.  This group gets it so making Artificials in the US is illegal, but only in the US.

Story four, The Assassin

The crime boss is Jack.  Not everyone who works in his office knows that it’s only a place to launder his money.  When Jack’s accountant Juan is driving home one day he gets into an accident and needs a new body.  Jack gives him one.  Using his new ability Juan puts his mind into Jack’s competitors killing them and using their bodies.  When the minds switch bodies the people seem to walk through a labyrinth from one body to another.

Story five, Johnny Law

Samuel Mallory is a police officer.  Leaving the city he did not get away from violence.  Sam catches some guys robbing a house and raping a girl.  Samuel saves the girl and stops the robbers, but gets paralyzed in the shoot out.  The house is owned by a crime boss.  He gives Sam a new body and hires him away from the police, Sam’s new job is to go into the other world where the labyrinth is and stop the crime boss in that world.
