About the Book

This story was totally fiction and the characters are fiction as well. Some of the material used in this book was gleaned from articles written about Osama Ben Laden; Afghanistan; the United States Marine Corps; the Kennedy Assassination; the gas attack on the Tokyo Subway system. A lot of the technical knowledge was taken from magazine articles and articles on the Internet. A great portion of the possible use of the computer for law enforcement was part of the writer's imagination. It remains to be seen if a lot of the technology mentioned in this story will come to fruition. The advances of computer technology in the last few years have been so astounding that it is hard to imagine what lies ahead for us. It could become a golden age and one that can promote peace to the world. It can be a boon to the Medical Profession as it already has. We could be heading for a civilization where we don't have to worry about crime or sickness or war. H G Wells wrote about time travel. Even that is not as implausible as it once was. When the writer was born, Space travel was talked of but no one thought that there would ever be a modern Buck Rogers. Who ever imagined that we would have six foot wide flat screen televisions broadcasting events all over the world and from outer space. So the Technology used by “Investicom” may not be so far fetched. Let's see.

About the Author

The author is a retired New York City Police Detective/Sergeant. He remembers the day he was sworn in as a New York City Police Officer in February, 1956. He went on to be a Patrolman and a Traffic Officer. From there he was promoted to the Detective Division and worked for 14 years in the Organized Crime Section. He was promoted from Detective Third Grade to 2nd Grade and then to Sergeant. He was selected to work on the theft of the famous “French Connection” narcotics and did so for two years. Then he went to work for Robert Morgenthau's office the New York County District Attorney.

It was during this time that he met Kevin Maher and this association of an informant and a police officer became more like a father and son relationship. They collaborated on many important successful investigations during this time. After serving with the Queens DA, Doherty retired and worked for ten years for the Department of Defense doing background investigations for “Top Secret” clearances. He left there to work for the Suffolk County District Attorney as a Detective Investigator working in several different bureaus. He and Maher at this time along with Charles Kipps wrote a book Cop Without a Badge. This book received notoriety during a television show on Bravo called The Real Housewives of New Jersey. Jim is now semi-retired and does private investigations for law firms and the federal government. It gives him time to spend with his wife Betty, his six children, Pat, Pam, Betsy, Gerri, Jim and John and their families including his 12 grandchildren, Teresa, Samantha, Christopher, Brittany, Andrew, Caitlin, and Jim.
