Not so long ago, five barnyard friends were given the key to the city for their bravery in ridding the countryside of a predator. Their picture showed up on the front page of the newspaper, and for a while, they were local celebrities. Soon things returned to normal, with one exception: there seemed to be an increased interest in the activities on the farm.
As the friends checked the Internet, pictures of them began to appear with strange captions. There was one of Duck and her ducklings with the caption “Duck Boot Camp—Land, Sea, Air—a Triple Threat.” She was just out for a walk with her hatchlings. Chicken’s photo showed her scratching in the dirt, with the caption, “Angry Hen Takes Matters into Her Own Feet.” It was just a coincidence that Farmer’s wife was standing nearby. Cow, Pig, and Horse were photographed together. “New Moosical Group Practices for Agricultural Tour,” read the bold print. This was just plain funny. Everyone knew Horse couldn’t sing. Anyway, all of the animals got a good laugh from the pictures and the accompanying blogs.

Blogged Down continues the story of the You’ve Got Friends cast as they deal with the arrival of some new barnyard animals and overcome the rumors about these newcomers that have been discussed in a blog. It takes an extraordinary event to open their eyes to the truth and a valuable lesson is learned. It should be read to children by a parent or teacher in order to open a dialogue about the caution with which information contained in blogs should be approached.
About the Author
Kathy Goedde loves teaching in imaginative and creative ways, thus the inspiration for this series. Her studies earned her a BA in elementary education, a MEd in curriculum and instruction, and a PhD in educational administration but her experience as a teacher and administrator provided the best education. She currently builds programs that support military families and their children. Someday, she hopes to live on ten percent of her income and give the rest away.
