The Adventures of Mattie Mae

MATTIE’S NEW HOME

I open my eyes and cannot believe what I see.  Can this all be real or am I having the dream of a lifetime?  Flush cocoa brown couches with matching chocolate pillows overcome my vision.  I have at least three or four funny looking stuffed animals at my feet along with some odd object that looks like a toothbrush, and tastes like pure heaven.  There is a flowing water fountain in the kitchen that is always filled to the top with fresh cold water.   I like it when my mommy puts three ice cubes in the middle.  I play with them on my tongue and it is very cold.  The aroma in the air is making my mouth water.  Could that be roast beef or is it rack of lamb?  My daddy always seems to be cooking something spectacular.   I am sure to get a taste if I behave myself.   I will sneak a piece off of my mom’s plate.  I have mastered this task.  My name is Mattie Mae, and I am a six month old yorkie-chihuahua mix.     I finally have a new home.

I was hoping that I would be the only pet in this beautiful place, but I see three other creatures wandering around the house.   The first creature is an enormous pumpkin colored cat that seems to eat more often than an elephant.   He sneaks around to steal my gourmet dinners, and I may have to teach him a lesson.  The other middle size creature is snowball white, and seems very skittish.  She runs whenever I get close, and I just want to lick her face to say hello.  She has raging fits, screams like a little girl, and runs under the couch every time I get within two feet of her.   She is very pretty, but what must I do to make her understand that I just want to be friends?  Finally, there is the small creature.   She is my BFF.  (Best Friend Forever)  She and I race around the house at full speed and I love it when we play hide and seek.   I usually win because I am a lot faster than she is, but she gives me a run for my money.  We share our food and sometimes I think she gives me kisses in my sleep.  The creatures are known to humans as cats. 

You should see the colossal bed that my mommy and daddy sleep in.  It feels like I am resting on a cloud.  It has a baby blue comforter made out of down goose feathers and lots of fluffy white pillows wrapped in mocha colored pillow cases.  I always snuggle in next to my mom and put my head on her pillow.  We sleep until dawn, and I wake her up with several kisses right smack on the lips.  I make sure that I don’t go pee pee in the bed because that would not be right.  Sometimes it is hard to hold it the whole night, but I am getting better at it every day.   I actually held it for ten hours last night.   I don’t want to do anything to make my mommy and daddy mad at me.   I
