About the Author

Leanne Plein Micinilio was born in South Africa in 1963. She was raised mainly in Johannesburg, but spent a few years of her childhood in Durban. Leanne is an African at heart and is drawn to the rhythm and spirit of the African bush. She is captivated by the underwater world of the ocean and enjoys scuba diving. She loves to travel, and has visited Australia, Canada, Ireland, Mauritius and Mozambique, as well as has traveled extensively in Europe. She lived in Milan, Italy for 2 years, where she taught English to young children. Leanne hopes to have an opportunity to live in Cape Town, South Africa, or Melbourne, Australia, at a stone-throw’s distance from the ocean, one day. Hobbies include; Latin languages, foreign movies, music and audio books. Shared passions with her husband include; travel, art and exploring international food and wine. Leanne met her American husband in Siena (Tuscany), Italy in 1995, while attending a 2 month scholarship at l’Universita per Stranieri. They married in South Africa in 1996, and returned to the United States to settle in Connecticut. They have a young child together. “I am very fond of children and am fascinated by what makes their curious minds tick. I find their naivete refreshing, and enjoy the fact that they say exactly what they are thinking. They have so much enthusiasm for life – deriving pleasure from simple things. We can learn so much from them. Since his birth, my own child continues to amaze, fulfill and delight me. Every day is a new adventure and I can’t get enough!"
