About the Book

Each title in the ‘Toby, the Big Little Tugboat series’ features a little tugboat and his daily activities in a small harbour.

His friends include Maggie, a motor yacht, Larry, a heavy-duty lorry, Mr. Brightly, the lighthouse, and Mr. Heavy, the harbour crane.

MikeGull is a seagull who, although not part of the stories themselves, acts as a commentor to the ‘action’.

Each page of text is accompanied by a full-colour illustration in bright, primary colours that will appeal to young children.

The stories are suitable for reading aloud to very young ones, while slightly older readers will be able to cope with the text themselves.

About the Author

Born 22 August 1965 in Johannesburg South Africa, Leo had a disciplined yet stable upbringing in a preachers home where a foundation was laid based on good morals and standards.

From an early age Leo was fascinated by animation and had dreams of one day working for the likes of Walt Disney and soon taught himself to draw cartoons, at school teachers told him to stop drawing and concentrate on his schoolwork, they said that drawing pictures will never amount to anything and it would never get him anywhere in life.

Although he worked as an electronic technician his love for drawing soon got the better of him and he would draw cartoons just about everywhere.

Later in life Leo finally enrolled in a 3D animation college in America where he took an online course for almost 5 years, while he was teaching computer science at a local high school.

On completion of the 3D animation course Leo was playing around with a little pet project in his spare time where he was making a small tugboat in 3D and soon there was not only a little tugboat but he had some friends a harbour and a Lighthouse, and “Toby The Big Little Tugboat” story was born.

A Publishing deal was struck soon afterwards and for the next three years Leo spent all of his free time working on the first four books, which went on sale in South Africa in July 2007 and sold 10000 copies within the first year.
