Come in, have a seat! I wish to share a tale with you. A tale of a boy named Malachi and his adventures. Whether you believe what I say to be true or not is for you to decide. Oh I lost my manners! I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Abel. I am known as the story teller in some parts a tale weaver in others, but call me what you wish. Now that the introduction is complete relax and let me begin.
Malachi is a handsome boy of sixteen, though you couldn’t tell by looking at him. You see, he was orphaned at the age of eight when his parents went on a voyage and never returned. Having no one to look after him, he was brought to Edward Institute for Children. Malachi was dressed in clothes that were torn, dirty and bathed only once a week, the people that ran the Edwards Institute were very mean.
“Why do you treat us this way!” cried Malachi to the Mistress.
“Because you are bad children and no one wants you anymore,” said the Mistress.
“But that’s not fair. You are so mean to us.”
“I will not tolerate back talk.”
The Mistress smacks Malachi hard enough you can hear it echo down the hall. He runs out of the hall and into the courtyard, where he sits and cries. While crying outside a girl named Rosland, a mean girl that was a favorite of the Mistress, is watching Malachi. Rosland is of average beauty with long brown hair and bright green eyes. She could have been very beautiful if not for the meanness in her. She was jealous that Malachi knew his parents and she was orphaned from birth.
“Oh Malachi, I hate you so much,” Rosland said to herself in the dark shadows of the bushes.
“Hey Malachi, I saw what happened to you and the Mistress is right. You are bad that’s why your parents died!” Rosland said.
Bewildered, Malachi turns around and sees Rosland standing behind him.
“That’s not true!” Malachi said. “You’re just saying that because you are mean just like she is.”
Rosland's face becomes very red and she gets very angry with Malachi. She pulls back her arm and punches Malachi right in the face. “Now crybaby go run and cry,” said Rosland.
Malachi runs into the woods that are near the orphanage and begins to cry.
“Why, why does these things happen to me? I wish I could go away from here. Somewhere I’m not picked on. A place I am free of this meanness! I could be a great warrior and everyone would cheer my name. Malachi, Malachi you are so brave and strong they would yell.”
While Malachi is walking through the woods day dreaming about a better place he wonders off the path and finds himself lost.
“Now what did I get myself into?
