Until yesterday, Toadie never minded much that he was average. Actually, he never knew there was anything to be but average. Yesterday was the first time he met someone who was GREAT. It was a birthday party for his best friend Bogart. (Who, by the way, turned an average six years old.) There were balloons that hung straight up in the air and all sorts of games and everyone was given their very own noise maker that went, “whooiizzzzzeeeeee!” when you blew into it. But the most exciting part was after lunch. THE GREAT SANDINI AND HIS TRAVELING WHIMSY Toadie saw amazing things. Birds flew out of the Great Sandini’s sleeves. He juggled flaming torches round and round in the air. He even made Bogart’s mother’s pearl necklace disappear. It was the most extraordinary show anyone there had ever seen. And everyone wondered how he did it.
But Toadie wondered, what made it GREAT?

About the Book
All books are about something and this book is no different. This book may appear to you to be an ordinary, average book about an ordinary, average toad, named (rather ordinarily and averagely, actually) Toadie. In many ways, you are not wrong to think so. Toadie himself, just freshly 6 years old and contentedly blissful about the completely ordinary life he leads, has no plans whatsoever to be anything other than average. He has never once thought differently. That is, as it happens, until yesterday happens. Yesterday, Toadie met GREATNESS. And now he is thinking very differently about his life, indeed.
About the Author
Catherine R. Hepola began writing stories when she was small. She began finishing them when she was much bigger, after her husband began reading them. They now have 3 children, who all love to read and write and draw and dance and eat and cook and together they all live in an average house in Colorado, which is not a mushroom (though we do our best to imagine it is) and where each day is greater than the last.
