PERSISTENT IN PRAYER
St Luke 11: 5-8
And He said unto them. Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go to him at midnight, and say to him, Friend lend me three loaves; for a friend of mine is come to me from a long journey, and I have nothing to set before him, and he from within shall answer and say; Trouble me not: the door is shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee. I say unto you, though he will not rise and give him because he is a friend, yet because of his importunity (persistence) he will rise and give him as many as he needeth
In intercession great boldness and persistence is often necessary.
This is how our friendship with God is proven. Our character as intercessors is based purely on our relationship with God. But how do we achieve friendship with God? By spending time in the word and communicating through prayer. We must speak to God by using His words, His covenants and His promises.
In this parable we see the love that seeks to help the needy around us.’ my friend is come to me’ (prayer request)
Then the need that urges us to cry, ‘I have nothing to set before him’ (I can do nothing on my own)
Then the confidence we have in our friend (God) to help us, ‘which of you shall have a friend and say, friend, lend me three loaves’, even with the refusal, ‘I cannot rise and give thee’ Then the perseverance that takes no refusal: ‘because of his importunity (persistence) yields the reward, ‘he will give him as many as he needeth’
We can seek and find the blessings of God in the prayer of faith based on our friendship with God. When I come to God in prayer, He always looks to see the aim of my petition (my motives). If God will be glorified in my dispensing His blessings to others, then I shall not ask in vain. (Will I tell my friend the results are from God, and not from me?)
Jesus is showing us that God is not only our father but also our friend. A child obtains what he asks from a father because it is the duty of a father to give. But with a friend, asking and receiving is more dependent on the relationship. Friends are on a more level therefore if our spirit and life are in agreement with God He will not refuse us our petitions. It is when we draw near to God as the friend of the poor and the perishing that we may count on His friendliness.

This 1 year daily devotion provides a starting point with a daily scripture reading from the Bible and adding a real life application to associate it with the day-to-day events, and ending with a prayer. It propels the readers to continue in prayer by adding their own requests. Prayer becomes easy when God’s word is the beginning and the ending.
The reader is motivated to go to the scripture to search for further truths and to see how the story continues from daily reading. This book takes the reader throughout the entire Bible and proves that God has a plan for every situation or circumstance that we encounter as we travel this road called ‘life’. We are assured that God is not surprised by the misfortunes or triumphs that we experience, because our Lord Jesus Christ is the Author and Finisher of our faith. We can be comforted with the words from 1Peter 3:12 ‘For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers…’

Praise the Lord! For his mercies endures forever. It seems like yesterday that Daily Grace publication was established. This 1 year daily devotion book has grown from just a few booklets given to the Saturday morning intercessors, to a mailing list of faithful readers.
I thank God for Intercessor Prayer Ministry leader Rose Knuckle, who has committed her life to prayer and leading others into prayer. When she was first appointed to be leader of the intercessory Prayer Team, she could not understand why I would appoint her, because the beauty and the joy of prayer was not yet revealed to her heart.
However, she humbly and fearfully accepted the position; these meetings were to be held each Saturday morning at 8am. Many mornings I would enter the Sanctuary only to see and hear Intercessor Rose alone crying out to our God, praying for the nations, the families, the sick and anyone who asked for prayers. I would encourage her to remain faithful, as discouraging as it might seem, for in due time God would reward her.
Today there is a group of faithful prayer warriors who stand with her to do warfare for the souls of men, women, and children. This group, under gird me their Pastor, with their Prayers.
I congratulate intercessor Rose for her diligence in the work of the Lord. I praise God for her daily, because of her faithfulness; she has grown to become a mighty woman of Prayer.
