The goal of this book is to bridge the gap between success in interviewing and success in the workplace, with the ultimate goal of getting hired.

Think back to the hard work you initially put into your current job. Your success there didn’t happen overnight. You probably failed once or twice before you got it. The same holds true with interviewing. However, as you have probably discovered, there aren’t as many opportunities in today’s employment market to hone your interview skills. Consider the amount of time you spent researching any big purchase you’ve made—how many people you checked with to see what’s the best on the market; how many buyers’ guides you read; how many items you test drove, sampled, tried on, or borrowed before you made the final decision. It only makes sense to do this much prep work before interviewing, too. Not every opportunity is the right one for you—and there’s no return policy when you take the wrong job. The sale is final and will probably be included on your new résumé. And, if it isn’t, you will need to explain the time gap between one job and the next. So, being prepared to make the best decision is very important.
