About the Author
Melissa grew up in a very strong religious home. Instilled deep within her are values that she has carried with her into adulthood. In her late twenties she was diagnosed with large spinal cord tumor which could have taken her life. But God had another path for her to tread. Surgery removed the tumor but left her seriously disabled. These events caused life to take on a different outlook. Outlooks most people do not have. As a single parent, she was determined to raise her two children in the ways of the Lord and to also show them that although life can be tough at times, pull yourself up, face it and carry on with determination.
At age 35 Melissa decided to pursue a college education. She received an Associates degree in computers. After working years as an internet technician, she once again found herself hurdling obstacles. The job ended due to the economy and she found herself considering other avenues.
In high school one of her English teachers had told her she was good at writing. The teacher encouraged her to possibly make it a career. But at the time pursuing the career seemed foreign and unobtainable. During a conversation shortly before her maternal grandfather passed away, he told her that sometimes when we feel useless in both our natural lives and our work for God, we need to look inside ourselves to see if there is an unused talent somewhere that needs to be used. Melissa did just that. Searching within found something, she could give words life on a page. At first it was poems that were given as personal gifts. Then one day came this first book set around the Silvery Pond.
Through the love and support of her extended family, her dedication to serving God, and the desire to use the gift she feels God has given her. Melissa feels the courage to step out on faith, take a chance and share this story with you.
