It all started when I was six. “Max, clean your room!” Mom said in a stern voice.
“Mom, it is clean!” I yelled right back.
“What about the glass in your room and the pepperoni pizza under your bed?” she answered right back.
How does she do that? I wondered as I found the glass behind my lamp.
I looked under my bed and there it was—a slice of shriveled-up pepperoni pizza. As I tapped the brown cheese crust on the table—tap, tap, tap—I thought, How long had it been there?
Then I heard it … tap, tap, tap. The sound came from under my bed.
