About the Book
Destiny is a little girl who has been victimized by a person described only as a “Friend.” "The Friend” has convinced Destiny to play “Touching Games” that are of an inappropriate nature. Destiny is continuously troubled by feelings of confusion and fear. Fearful that her “Friend” will become angry if she shares the Secret with someone else, Destiny begins to isolate herself. Also haunting her is the fear that adults will not believe her. The internalized emotions begin to create physical symptoms that Destiny cannot resolve alone. In real life occurrences, this response is common in those who have been exposed to sexual abuse. The story focuses on trust, gender differences, problem solving and creating healthy bonds.
About the Author
The author is an advocate for an array of under-served populations and believes that in order to bring out the best in others, one must be willing bring out and make sense of the worst. "There are so many people in life who suffer needlessly because they are still holding on to old wounds that hamper growth and success. To be able to sit with an individual on a level of mutual understanding and respect and not judgment, makes it possible to assist another to overcome the past. So much human potential is buried beneath trauma and pain. To allow potential to reach the top, one must first unbury and release it.” A mother of three boys, a writer and an advocate who has worked alongside children and families whose lives have been affected by sexual and physical abuse, the author is a firm believer in the unbelievable power of unity and support.
