About the Author
Fran Hornsby is an expert on the psychology of weight loss, eating behaviours and food issues. She has worked with hundreds of women in therapy groups and understands very well the psychological reasons why people carry excess weight. Fran`s adolescent experience of anorexia and binge eating has informed her appreciation of the complex issues that underpin a compulsion to eat…….a need that is totally unrelated to hunger. Being obsessed with losing weight has become such a fundamental part of our lives that we sometimes forget how to live without it. She explains why diets do not work and that looking at our behaviour and, most importantly how we think, is vital to our success in weight loss and weight management. When we improve our relationship with ourselves and others our use of food automatically changes for the better. “I write this book in the hope, and wish, that you can realise to focus on food, is to start back to front, food is not the enemy, you are, it is what you do with it and how you have manipulated its function that causes the struggle, if you can truly accept this then you have the chance and the ability to change” says Fran! I feel so passionate about wanting to change this absolute belief that to diet is the only answer, yet society does speak for itself and whilst there are so many diets out there we are continually told of the obesity epidemic. We have to change the way we analyse, tackle and manage weight, this book gives you the direction that is needed to be taken. Having worked with hundreds of women in therapy groups Fran Hornsby understands only too well the psychological reasons for why people carry excessive weight. Having been an adolescent borderline anorexic only to come out of that and then binge on Mars Bars she has never been far away herself from all the issues that under pin the complexities around needing food for every reason other than hunger. “For weight to become less of an issue we must move away from the whole diet culture, it has been around for such a long time and yet as more and more people suffer from obesity this only proves the point that we have not found the appropriate solution” says Fran. She believes that when we alter our relationship with other people and thus with ourselves our use of food will automatically change.
