About the Book

About the Author

Lorye Carter-Reed is a native of Waco, Texas, where she received her education.  Graduating from Reicher Catholic High School, Carter-Reed has degrees from McLennan Community College and Baylor University.  She holds a Bachelor of Music Education, with concentration in piano, and the Master of Music in Church Music.

Professionally, Carter-Reed has taught 26 years in the Texas public school system, teaching elementary music, high school/middle school choir, and music appreciation.  She taught piano for 10 years in the McLennan Community College Continuing Education program, and also had a private piano studio for 5 years.

Many of Carter-Reed's students have received first division ratings (I) in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Vocal Solo/Ensemble contest, both on the local and state level.

Lorye is proudest of the fact that she is a member of the Church of God in Christ, holding evangelist missionary license.  A gospel songwriter, she has had four of her songs recorded - one, by the Edwin Hawkins Music and Arts Seminar choir.  The song, "Since I met Jesus, the Lord has done a work in me," is a personal testimony.

Carter-Reed is a wife, and mother of one son.  Her musical interests are, of course, gospel music, 19th/20th century American hymnody.  Music is her life.
