About the Book

Dear Reader, If you were born a free man or if you are one of the many survivors of communism, perhaps you are interested in reading the authentic life story of the Szombathy family, the devastating life they lived, and their persecution under the communist system. How the “red epidemic” destroyed their integrity as human beings and caused them much hardship. The unjust ways the ancient, noble family was forced into hard-labor camps and jail because they didn’t agree with the system’s ideas. Then, their daughter made a wish to be free. A warm “wind-like” touch across her face let her know that there is still hope for breaking out of the choking tightness of communism and finding healing in the light of freedom. That light of freedom she found in the United States of America. “America! America! God shed his grace on thee!”

About the Author

Ildiko Eva Szombathy's wishes came true, arriving with her son Bela Jr. and daughter Melinda to the free land of the United States of America. She found work in a Hungarian pastry shop and in a hotel where little language knowledge was required. To make ends meet, in her spare time she interpreted Romanian and Hungarian languages for Language Center International and Executive Language Services, Incorporated. She also taught Hungarian language for Speak Easy and Gamboa Language Schools. A few years later, she enrolled in college courses to earn her degree in nursing.

“In your careers, you will meet many people. All are significant. They deserve your attention and care,

even if all you do is smile and say hello.”

—Joanna C. Jones

Working as a healthcare provider for close to twenty years, Ildiko helps people day by day as she promised to God when Bela Jr. fought his battle with cancer. She is a happy grandmother of two beautiful granddaughters, Viktoria and Kristina, and feels safe and privileged to live in America, enjoying the various benefits of freedom that never should be taken for granted.
