She felt her eyes as they rose to that terribly sharp blade as it stood hanging over my head, and she began to pray for me, then as the blade glistened in the low light, she looked to the east again, hoping the sun would rise faster than it seemed to be. She thought the first rays of the morning sun were about to rise over the nearby mountaintops, she shouted as it burned it’s way into her heart, pointing at it, but no one was paying her any attention, instead they were focusing on my impending death. No one seemed to be paying her any mind but the man who was still speaking, and he never took his eyes off her while he spoke, instead he seemed to relish her predicament and mine of course. He seemed to be enjoying himself, trying to savor the moment.
Then she watched in horror as my slowly pitched forward and almost landed in the basket, but instead, it hit the edge and bounced out, and though it was what they had all come to see, they all moved back as they screamed in horror, afraid it might touch them and stain their souls with my blood, as if it might curse them and their generations to come. They all watched as my head rolled forward, pitching end over end as it went until it hit her toes and then stopped. My blood trailed a crimson streak across her gown as it flew out of my neck, just nicking the edge of her gown and covering her throat with the warm blood that had been in my body just moments ago.

About the Book
This story starts in 1834, when the Spanish Inquisition was winding down. Two kids meet and fall in love, and shortly thereafter die horrible deaths because they won't compromise that love, not at any price.
Almost 200 years later, they find themselves back here in Los Angeles, and then find each other again. Both have nightmares they can't explain.
They get one kiss and it's the link to the past, it's where they started both lives and gives them hope until their tormentors arrive too, all four finding their way here individually and yet linked together and set out to gain that measure of Revenge.
About the Author
J R Gonzalez was born and spent most of his life in Los Angeles, and his love for this area is reflected in his work.
He now has five books published, one poem and this is his second book, and counts among his most inspirational authors Edgar Allen Poe and Stephen King.
