Introduction
Training the present and future generations of Christians to become servant leaders is now, and will continue to be one of the most daunting challenges of our time. Training leaders is a difficult process at best, but training and equipping spiritual servant leaders will require paying a heavy price. It will require changing some of our attitudes - even some of our church learned habits. It will require challenging the status quo and redefining the qualifications of real spiritual leadership. It will mean coming against a mindset that has accepted the world's definition of leadership, a definition that says leaders are defined by their social status and materialistic accruements. A mindset that has fostered the birth of spiritual idols in the church whose podiums have been erected by Hollywood showmanship, and suave marketing. A mindset that has replaced the towel and wash basin with positions and titles.
Some of the ineffectual, antiquated leadership models of the past must be replaced with a new paradigm of effective servant leadership. Why? Because the Church is but a reflection of its respective leadership. If we in fact recognize that the church is a direct reflection of its leadership, then we must also recognize that the church is in a very precarious position at best. In a narcissistic climate of self-adulation and spiritual self-promotion, the church is in danger of becoming that which God despises. We need not blame the outside world for our internal spiritual decay; but rather look within, at our pillars, our watchmen, our gatekeepers, and yes our pulpits.
If in fact it is time for a changing of the guard then it will be necessary to train and equip a new generation of leaders, and we must begin at the small church level. Training Christian leaders for service will be tough; but real spiritual warfare will be even tougher! God is indeed calling for His true servant leaders to take their rightful places, not up front leading the crowd, but in the back serving Gods army!

About the Book
Almost anywhere you look today, in business, politics, sports, education and yes ministry, there is a resounding cry for leadership! Today more than ever there is a need for leaders who exemplify a high standard of moral excellence. This was one of the primary reasons for me writing this book. It is my hope that I can bring some light to a very serious predicament the church finds itself in; a lack of true servant leaders.
The first step in changing our current church culture of leadership is to begin changing how we view leadership. Our current perception of leadership has too often been skewered by societal definitions. The church and its leaders must undergo a mental makeover that will ultimately give us an accurate understanding of what it means to be a servant leader.
Anyone can place the title of Bishop, Pastor, Elder, Deacon, Apostle, Evangelist, Minister, Reverend, etcetera, beside their name; but God didn’t call us to have titles. God called us to be servants! And the mantra of a servant is always, “Lord not my will, but your will be done.”
Romans 9:17-- “I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”
To be what you tell others to be, you must be the first to walk in a daily life of self-discipline. You must be willing to do what others either will not, or cannot, and live a life of passionate commitment to Christ. If you fail, even though you were capable, are YOU truly fit to be called a Leader?
