About the Book

TURIYA: A Collection of Wordizms is a work of art that mixes media in the written and visual form. Turiya is the 4th and highest level of human consciousness one can obtain. When you reach Turiya you have the ability to take an ideal for it's true value without attaching it to anything else. The ideal stands alone. It is a state of pure consciousness.

TURIYA: A Collection of Wordizms makes a statement about just how far we have come as a community of color in America. The book has two sections 1. Heads of Lettuce Speak: short stories 2. Ears of Corn Hear This: poetry. The poems are universal and deal with issues that all human beings face despite their origins.

The artwork for each section cover page uses Adinkra symbols that have powerful meanings. There are also photos and sketches included throughout the book.

The five short stories in this work of art deal with issues people of color in America have faced throughout time. What is important here is to remember the historical value of challenges people of color have faced in our uphill battle for equality. Even amongst ourselves.

About the Author

Kendra Wisdom Durand, the Cincinnati born writer whose stage name is Wisdom Keys is the gatekeeper of knowledge when it comes to experience.  She can be described as a wheel of energy in constant motion like the seven chakras on the tree of life. Durand has been writing most of her life, penned her first novel using crayons in kindergarten, and at age seven emerged a passion for poetry and performance. Her writing style at best is electric like the third rail in the underbelly of NYC that dances around language with the use of imagery and symbolism.

Durand has peddled poetry as a spoken word artist in London, Amsterdam, Cologne, Paris, Puerto Rico and over 22 states.  Durand has also founded her own open mic show called Wordizm: an uncensored outlet for creative expression in Buffalo, NY as an undergraduate at UB.

She is now determined to bring her messages to the forefront. Her stories, essays, and poetry reflect today's social issues, while imparting sheer enjoyment in the beauty of words. Also known as an editor, speaker, edutainer, and inspirational writer, her debut collection of poetry and short stories exhibits her talents as an exceptional storyteller.
