A Distress Call
At the Nassa space centre Kathy was very busy getting things ready for the trip of a life time.
Going into space was one thing, to be with the Aliens on their own planet was an adventure she wasn’t going to miss. She needed to wait for Jeff and Mary to come back from their honeymoon. She could hardly wait to tell them that the date was set for the following week. This would give her time to visit her own family. She missed them very much specially her brother Joshua. She calls home every week but it wasn’t the same as getting the feeling of being there in person. First things first she said to herself. We need to find out how things are in Europa with Yark’s planet.
I haven’t heard from him in a long time. This made her very worried that things are not going well there. Just as she was going to her room she heard a small voice saying help us, She turned around and seen nothing there. As she walked on down the hall she heard it again. Who’s there? Nothing. She continued to walk on down the hall a few feet and it happened again louder this time. Help us. Kathy wasn’t to sure what to do this time because she couldn’t see who made that call for help. Then she seen this flash of light going towards the medical room. She quickly rushed to see if it was still there and to her surprise there was Yark and a small being kneeling beside the older one. Who are you she asked. He said something to her but it wasn’t like the voice that called out for help. Yark !Yark are you alright? What is wrong with you? I need to go and get help for you stay here and I will find Dr. Zimmerman he will know what to do. She patted the little beings head as she was getting up to fetch the Doctor. The little being stared into her eyes and said something that sounded almost like thank you. She ran as fast as her feet would allow her to the Doctors office but he wasn’t there. They told her that he is in his quarters resting.
Kathy reached the Doctor’s room to hear that Dr. Zimmerman and Larry was fighting about something to do with his grades. She banged on the door a couple of times to their attention. Sorry to bother you Doctor I need you to come with me right away. What’s wrong Kathy? Are you ill?
the breeze. The air conditioner is on she said. We can’t shut it off it will be to hot in here without it for us. Could we turn it down some Doctor ? Yes that might help improve his condition. Larry was sent to the control room to see if there was a way to turn it down. When he got there the door was locked. He didn’t have the keys this time so he went back to get his Father’s keys from him. As he went back he ran into Jeff and Mary. Where are you going in such a hurry? You wouldn’t believe me if I told you. You will have wait and follow me if you want to know the answer to your question. What is going on here? I want to know right this minute. Ok go to the room with the lights are bright green and you will be surprised to find two Alien beings there. Two. Yes Sir two. Lets go Mary, I need to see this.
When they reached to doorway they found Kathy and Dr. Zimmerman sitting on the floor talking to Yark. When the entered the room Kathy was holding the little being on her lap playing with his fingers. He was so soft and had the brightest eyes that she had ever seen. They shine like the stars in the sky she said to Yark. He had enough energy now to say thank you to her and for saving them from the cold. air that was so hard for them to breath. What’s going on in here? Jeff wanted to know. Kathy put the little one down beside Yark and jumped up to give Jeff and Mary a hug. Welcome home you two. How was your honeymoon? Mary grabbed Kathy by her shoulders and repeated the question again. What is going on here Kathy? Well I was going to my room when I heard this tiny voice asking for help and I found Yark in distress in here. They were staring at the two beings. What is wrong with you two? We haven’t seen him like this before. Sorry I forgot about that. Don’t they look wonderful? Beautiful big eyes long slinky fingers and they don’t wear clothes. They asked them are you cold? Kathy said, he said, no that they were comfortable for now. What does that mean? Well the air conditioner was on full blast and it made it difficult for them to breath. Kathy I need to talk with Y

Stars
Stars twinkling in the night,
High in the sky is right,
Shooting star goes in flight,
Wishing on it as we like.
Twinkle, twinkle, every where,
Letting us know it is still there,
High up above we all stare,
Showing the stars we still care.
Guiding us when we lose our way,
Telling us bunk down and stay,
The flares glow as the stars may,
For help will come for us today.
Falling stars will not hit the ground,
For they do not make a sound,
Looking for them they emit be found,
They disappeared in the mound.
Happy days are here again
To see them glow after the rain,
See the millions of them arrange,
Into the big dipper that is strange.
Taking shape in the sky,
Making it easy for you and 1,
To see what is out there we need to rely,
On a telescope to see what space hides,
To see the planets with your own eyes.
About the Author
When I was a little girl I would write rhyming poetry. I would share my poems with my Deaf Parents and my siblings. I would have to speak with my hands in order for them to understand me as I did this I would read it out loud for the others. We didn't have many books in our house we would borrow them from school to read at night time. I have always enjoyed reading about space and wildlife adventures. I would often dream of becoming an explorer one day but that was only one of my passions.
A new adventure became my dream of being a wife and Mother to my own children. As my children were growing up the day to day life of being able to enjoy watching them as they were making their wishes known to me. As my children have have all become adults themselves it was time for them to listen to their children's hopes and dreams of what they wanted to be when they grow up themselves.
My brightest star in my life right now is that I am the Grandmother of ten wonderful Grandchildren. To watch them play and frolic pretending to be some character or role model enlighten me that maybe I should write a book about living with the Deaf. My Mother thought I would do better with writing a children's book instead. She was right I had the most thrilling adventure I could wish for and for that I believe that all wishes still come true for all of us if we only believe in ourselves.
