The Legend of the Wood

“…Once back at his front grounds, Blakely sat covered up in his great grizzly bear skin and rubbed the smooth rock on the end of his cane.  Even though the snow was falling very steadily now in large flakes and there was no chance of lighting a warm fire, Blakely had no intention of going inside.  This day had brought so many thoughts to his mind; he would not be able to lie down without sorting them out.

‘These men were strange indeed, strange and secretive.  Had they really simply stumbled upon the people of the wood, or were they looking for us?…”

“…Blakely brought his cane close to his old eyes and squinted as he could only faintly make out the words he knew so well.  The words were written in a strange straight edged manner.  The letters had no curve to them, and were printed in a reflective silver color that had all but completely faded through the many years Blakely had carried it.  But no matter, Blakely held the words deep within his heart by now:

By this you will know

As the coldest winter blows

And when nothing can burn

It is then you must return

Trek the Jessap Waters

Seek for the dust of the Father

Dump the dust in the water’s foam

It is then you will be welcomed home…”
