“I can’t believe this!” She laughed. “Are you that desperate that you go out and prey on married men because you can’t get one of your own?”
“To shay my dear, I have hers now!” Grabbing my things I got up from my chair headed for the exit. Behind me I could hear Mela getting up to follow me.
Once outside I gave my ticket to valet to retrieve my car and apparently to finish our conversation.
“Eva, don’t ruin this!” she said grabbing my arm to get full attention. “This is the one time in that girl's life that she’s happy and here you come to destroy it.”
“Sweetie, I didn’t destroy anything and that’s where you’re wrong. To me it was destroyed the first time he thought about me.”
“You’re telling me that it doesn’t bother you that the so called man that you loved is involved with someone else?”
“Oh, yea, it bothers me and currently I’m thinking of a way to change that.”
“What? Are you hearing yourself? You are only an every now and then fling and that’s it!”
“Mela, you really need to look more into your story Hon. Now, you tell me this, why do you think Janice was feeling so depressed before coming out here. Hell, even before the wedding? Because she knew their marriage was failing and she had a clue that infidelity was going on. Only thing was she didn't know with who and she definitely didn't know it was happening with me." Taking a pause I continued. "Mela, Keith spends more time with me than he does his own wife...your cousin.”
“Wow! Eighteen year friendship and I never knew you were so cunning. I never would have thought you would grow comfortable and arrogant with stealing another woman's man.”
“Boo, I didn’t steal anybody's man he came to me!”
“He’s still married Eva and I can’t believe you are comfortable in knowing that and continuing to see him.”
“It’s not about that, so, get it straight!” Looking directly in her face, I have to end this conversation before it gets ugly but she keeps on pushing me.
“Did you sleep with him?” she asked, sounding disgusted to even know the answer.
I didn’t want to answer her by the way she asked as if someone just stabbed her in the back. So, instead of answering I turned away from her to continue to wait for my car that seemed to be taking for ever to be brought down.
“Did you sleep with him?” she asked again with of a stern loud tone.
“If not me Mela who would it have been?”
“Not my damn bestfriend!’ She answered with her voice trembling like she was on the verge of tears.
I cringed as she spoke those words to me. Dog, that hurt!
For a moment we both stood there in silence just eyeing one another.
I turned away as I couldn’t even look at her any more. I wanted to apologize right then but then reality came back to me that she was trying to come between me and my man. For years I have always based my feelings on how others felt about what I’ve said or done. Afraid that they might have taken what I’ve said as offensive. Even when they have insulted me and I retaliated. Personally, I’m fed up with putting people before my own feelings especially when they don’t seem to care about mine. I’m tired of being alone because I don’t deserve it.
So, even if that meant I had to share Keith for while then that was what Eva was going to do. The point of the matter is, it’s time to do what Eva feel is right because regardless of that ring that’s on his and her finger, Keith ass belonged to me end of story!
“You know the only possible reason for him being with you is because of the sex and you can deal with that?”
“Well, then tell her to learn how to fuck her husband, maybe then he might reconsider, then again I seriously doubt that. He’s not trying to leave me Mela so tell her to get over it or leave!"
