About the Book
From the plains off western Kansas to the mountains of West Virginia is an extreme change. It took many years to make it this far and it has been an exciting journey. Writing this book has brought back so many happy memories which I believe are worth sharing.
For many years I have written short stories and poems for my family. I intended to write about my dad and spent much time researching his life. While talking with my son about what an interesting character my father was he suggested that I write my own story. I found that to be an intriguing challenge.
With the help of Belinda Anderson's writing class and encouraged by my friend Ed Martin, I began my trek back into my history. My family gave me that extra push to get this book underway. It has taken me several years to complete and I have enjoyed probing my mind, pulling out bits and pieces of my past.
About the Author
Story telling and writing have interested me since childhood. I listened to the stories my parents told me and thought how wonderful it would be if my grandchildren knew my story.
I had written several essays and poems over the years. After gathering them from the nooks and crannies of my studio I put them together to have a small book published locally. It was quite a hit with family and friends and even a few strangers. That encouraged me to begin this book.
I had never been a disciplined writer but keeping a sporadic diary helped me remember much of my preteen years. Now as an adult I find writing to be good therapy for anything that ails me. I often get up in the middle of the night and put my thoughts on paper. And those should be good for another book.
