Kyran's Secret

   As Kyran walked hurriedly toward Fifth and Chester, she could not help but recall the argument she and her mother had earlier.  She could still hear her mother saying, "You were your father's Little Angel.  I would not want him to see how you have turned out."  In her mind she knew that her mother never really knew the secret she had kept for all these years about her father.  Many a night when he came rambling home from one of his drinking binges, he would come straight to her bedroom and "bother" her.  He never really did anything but touch her underneath the covers, but this was so wrong and dirty to her.   Before he would leave, he'd always say to her, "Little Angel, this is our secret.   Don't ever tell your mother becasue it would kill her.  Now, Little Angel, sleep well and don't let the bedbugs bite."  Then, he'd leave her room, only to return the very next time he was drunk.  No, her mother did not know this.  If she did, she would know why she had grown up with so many problems.   She could never bring herself to hurt her mother so badly by telling this secret; she had to deal with it alone.    

     Suddenly, she pulled herself out of her trance and resumed her effort to find Deion before the night was over.   When she arrived at  Tuck's house, she could hear the loud music and smell marijuana.   She knew Deion would act crazy with her, but she had to do this tonight.   She had taken so much off him until he had begun to take her for granted.   The fight that she and her mother had earlier was enough to let her know that this could not continue.   Her mother was right, and she had to end this relationship, as well as end supporting Deion's habit.  She was praying that Deion would agree to treat her better and not decide that they should break up, even though she was fooling herself into thinking that she had the will power to sever their ties herself.

     She was a little reluctant to enter the house, although she now remembered that she had been here several times with Deion.  Each time  they had come to the house, Deion would act really crazy when they left.   She now knew why his entire personality would change.  Tuck was selling drugs out of his mother's house.  She wouldn't have been surprised if Mrs. Nelson knew this, too.  She knew that this was the reason Deion was here tonight.  She also knew that he would be somewhat difficult to deal with, especially in the presence of his  homeboys.

As she entered the door, a fog of marijuana smoke met her, almost taking her breath.   She knew, however, that she could not let a little smoke stop her.
