I Wanted to Read
Like the breath of a dragon embedded into my soul is fire
Transformed into my thoughts transformed into poetic desires
Trying to escape the intricate walls that surround me daily
Heavily intoxicated over why I must be gagged and bound so that I fit in
Lost and found into Your world
A world of lies blinded by its own unrighteous selfishness
To be the Misunderstood…
But don’t feel pity for a Dreamer who stands alone on a Hill trying to dodge stones
That Hill is my beginning to an end, the end to a trend of the fault’s all Gwen’s, it’s where my heart breaks and mends
There’s only one way to put out a fire, to smother it
How can you blame me if you didn’t smother me to begin with?
Yet you stood there as if you know me
I wanted to read to you from that Hill tonight
Where beauty is unmatched and is to be savored like the sweetness of a sugar cane
Two beauties…one of vision, the other you must learn of
I wanted to reveal to you tonight that there’s more to the girl that’s sometimes loud and sometimes quiet
That’s sometimes smiling and other times don’t find a need to be untrue to her soul
Are you capable of capturing moments of peace like that of a tree standing in the middle of nowhere baring red orange leaves on a Hill?
I only want to blend in with the perfection of a sunset with whispers of a subtle breeze in my ear
I wanted to read to you verses in script in blood from my veins signed by my name some day in fame
I wanted to read to you until it’s clear to you how it feels to be free
Free on top of a Hill all my burdens relieved
Like those of the wings of an eagle, Free
Why he stopped believing in me, Free
Why I can’t let You break me, Free
I wanted to speak to you in a different language on a more common ground
Because when you understand the Misunderstood You become Free too!
I wanted to read to you what it’s like to be Me

I believe in beautiful stories, this is mine...
I give to you original poetry to live by, love by and learn by. These poems were written from my heart. They mean the world to me. This book is fiery! It is mature and full of brilliance. These poems came to life from my life. I am so excited about this anthology. I am confident you will fall in love over and over. From start to finish this book will take hold of your soul and leave you with the WOW factor. It will open your eyes to a whole new realm of thinking. The public has never heard most of these poems. You will be the first to tell of their magic. I do not expect superstar status; I just want my voice heard!
About the Author
I am a Poet! I am defined only by emotion. I'm mostly filled with happiness and joy, while other times drowning in sadness. Yet, I am still a Poet!
Every emotion I've ever felt, dreamt or attempted to feel is in my poetry. I breathe this stuff! I'm free on a page. Poetry is my passion. It keeps me sane.
I truly began writing at fifteen. This was a time when I thought true love had found me. Uprooted, I moved away and my thoughts took over me. While in class at my new school, I read Dorothy Parker's "One Perfect Rose". I still have my copy. I remember being so inspired. It was at that moment I discovered poetry. I discovered me! I wrote my way through those days of sadness. That year I submitted one of my poems in a contest. They liked it and it was to be published. Because my poetry is so special to me, I don't enter many contests. However, I currently have two pieces on poetry.com. One of those poems "Appreciation", will also be published in "The Little Black Book of Poetry" this spring. It is more than an honor when my work is acknowledged, taken seriously and is appreciated.
It wasn't until I relocated back to TX that a poetic revelation occurred. I began attending poetry venues and reciting. I've been a featured poet and I even took second place in my first slam competition. Being introduced to different poetic styles, my writing really began to soar to new heights. There's nothing like the adrenaline rush of standing behind the mic. I'll never forget those days.
