Toreka N. Lipscomb was born in Buffalo, New York in 1979. She is the oldest of three sisters. In 1993, Toreka attended Turner Carroll High School. There she found her life would change forever when she was introduced to her English teacher named Irene St. Rose. Irene inspired Toreka to write and act in school plays after reading one of her English papers. She bought Toreka one of Dr. Maya Angelou’s books to read, “I Know Why The Cage Bird Sings,” and told Toreka, “this will be you one day if you believe in yourself.” Toreka’s junior year of High School, she transferred to Cleveland Hill High. There she met Paul Lewis, a history teacher, who had a very unique way of teaching history. He made the class very enjoyable. After speaking to him one day after class, he inspired her to continue to write, once he read her history papers. In 1998, Toreka graduated from high school and also in that same year, gave birth to a beautiful seven pound daughter, named Zyiara. A year later, Toreka attended college in Scranton Pennsylvania, where she majored in Law and received her degree as a Legal Assistant. Toreka is twenty seven years old and single. She hopes to one day become married and have a family. God has blessed her to achieve her dream to become a writer. She encourages everyone to reach beyond, dream big dreams and reach for what might seem to be unreachable. She has a strong belief in God and she knows none of this would have been possible without him.
