About the Book

This book is an introduction to Safety Town and a complement to some of the lessons taught in Safety Town Programs in communities throughout the country geared to pre-kindergarten and kindergarten aged children. It's written verse-style and is meant to be read aloud and covers the introduction of the police officer, crossing the street, traffic signals, seat belt safety, bicycle safety, the importance of learning name, address and phone numbers, stranger danger, littering, the ambulance, dangerous hiding places, finding someone to confide in, fire safety (stop, drop and roll) and the use of dialing "911".

About the Author

It's been about 25 years since I chaired the Safety Town program in Amherst, Ohio where I directed my own 3 children through the program as they approached entry into kindergarten. I found the Safety Town Program to be profoundly educational.  I directed and tweaked the program over several years to constantly upgrade and improve the content of the Safety Town Program and to enroll as many kindergarten-aged children as possible.I now have a grandson who's been through his community's Safety Town Program and a granddaughter who will be ready for next summer's program. And, of course, when you have small children, you want them to know everything they possibly can about how to keep themselves safe.

With the help of the police and fire departments, medical personnel and teen volunteers, we covered basic safety practices in small classes to a great many children.  I just can't help being enthusiastic about this program and with this book, I hope to reach a great many more children throughout the country (and maybe the world) and help them learn basic safety rules and how to get reliable, safe help FAST if something goes wrong.

I don't need to tell you it's a busy world and empowering our children with knowledge of safe behavior will be its own reward.

To save the lives of children. What could be more important?
