Have you ever been dissatisfied with your life? Ever felt disillusioned with your accomplishments or totally disappointed with the outcome of your choices? I have. I had finally reached a place in my life where I refused to be satisfied with the status quo. It was as if I’d been asleep for decades and when I awoke I loathed who I had become and where I was. I felt like a modern day Gulliver tied down with all sorts of restraints and surrounded by Lilliputians trying to control me. This awakening led me to some painful soul searching which in turn brought me to one monumental realization. Change! It was time for a change. I desperately needed to change. Not my job, neighborhood, friends, family, clothes, weight or income; this change needed to occur within me. I desired an internal transformation powerful enough to manifest through me affecting my environment.
What is the Prosperity of the Soul? Scholars have defined the soul of man as a combination of the heart, the mind, the will and even the spirit. These words all interchangeably clearly point to our conscious awareness of self. The Soul is where my emotions and logic meet. I store my experiences, dreams, appetites, ambitions, hopes, feelings and beliefs in my soul. My Soul seeks balance. The Soul should be held in reverence. The Soul is more precious than this mortal life. It’s my most valuable possession.
Biblical prosperity in the Old and New Testaments described the way or process one chose to follow through life. Success was then defined more by one’s choices than by one’s achievements. Prosperity of the soul is not about greed. Quite the contrary, the more my soul prospers the more I seek opportunities to give. My giving is tempered through a practice of examining my motives and intentions.
Though my soul inhabits this body of flesh that dwells in a materialistic world, it longs for a prosperity that can’t be valued by the amount of things I possess. Don’t get me wrong, I do like things and I have an uncanny knack for being drawn to the expensive kind. Relax. This book is not based upon some existential exercise in modern martyrdom or object puritan poverty. Still no matter how much time or money I spend on acquiring possessions, there’s a longing things can’t satisfy. Prosperity of the Soul can’t be bought, stolen, earned, won or achieved through materialism.
Prosperity of the Soul is not just for the elite or some exclusive society of over achievers. Prosperity of the Soul is accessible to anyone. Self worth should be my determination. Life is a privilege and my soul invaluable by virtue of creation. It is my responsibility to analyze, appraise and increase the prosperity of my own soul. Like a fine wine or rare coin, my value should increase with time. The only thing powerful enough to limit the importance of my soul is my own belief system. Once I choose to evolve, once I choose to accept responsibility, once I choose to soar beyond the limits of my environment or the expectations of others, at that very moment my self worth has begun to increase. Like stock in a fortune five hundred company my soul’s prosperity should grow and even split; multiplying itself and adding to the value of others.
Prosperity should continuously pour out reverence and love even when not reciprocated. Grace is a gift. Graciousness is a Godly attribute. We are saved by grace but God’s grace was never meant to be considered some selfish religious commodity. Grace is not just something God gives to us, but He also expects us to bestow grace upon others. Don’t you think it’s time for those of us who claim God as our Father to start acting like Him?
My spirit is made in the eternal likeness of God and that same likeness dwells within all of mankind. We are all collectively spiritual beings with individual consciousnesses. Our souls were designed with the capacity to act as a bridge between the natural and spiritual. We don’t all take advantage of this privilege but it is still none the less there for all. Tapping into the spirit is not limited to the elite or supposedly gifted. Reaching the realm of the spirit is not exclusive to a particular religion, movement, culture or group. It’s a right and free to any soul that dares to believe and evolve beyond the materialistic or a shear intellectual two dimensional existence.
